Coinbase is bringing back the Coinbase Wallet name as the cryptocurrency exchange expands its focus on multichain trading and self-custody. The company announced the change on September 10, 2026, reversing the Base App branding introduced in 2025.

The move comes as Coinbase positions its product as more than a tool for storing digital assets. The updated Wallet is designed to give users broader access to onchain markets while allowing them to retain control of their private keys.

The wallet now supports more than 10 blockchain networks, including Base, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, BNB Chain, Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon, Avalanche, Monad and Robinhood Chain. This broader network coverage gives traders access to assets and markets across multiple ecosystems from a single self-custodial platform.

Coinbase is also expanding the types of markets available through its wallet. Alongside traditional crypto trading, users can access products such as perpetual futures, prediction markets and tokenized stocks. Coinbase has described the wallet as a testing ground for assets and trading products that may not yet be available through its centralized exchange.

For traders, the expansion could make this wallet more relevant as an onchain trading hub rather than simply a cryptocurrency storage solution. Multichain access can reduce the need to move between separate wallets and platforms when seeking opportunities across different blockchain ecosystems.

However, self-custody also places greater responsibility on users. Unlike assets held through a centralized exchange, users managing their own wallet remain responsible for protecting private keys and approving transactions. Network fees, liquidity differences and smart-contract risks can also vary between ecosystems.

The return to the Coinbase Wallet name therefore signals a broader strategy from Coinbase: combining its established brand with the growing demand for decentralized and multichain access.

For active traders, the key development will be whether Coinbase can turn the wallet into a competitive gateway to emerging onchain markets while maintaining the accessibility and security users expect from the Coinbase ecosystem.
